- Millwall 2
- Leighton (2)
- Hull City 2
- Hamilton, Chadwick
The Under-18s claimed a second successive 2-2 Professional Development League after sharing the spoils away at Millwall.
Tyler Hamilton’s fourth-minute strike ensured the perfect start for the Tigers. The front-man showed great pace to latch onto a long clearance, before beating his marker inside the box and firing a low shot into the bottom corner.
However, the Tigers’ joy proved to be short-lived as the hosts equalised almost immediately from the restart. Following patient build-up play involving Eze Ebuzoeme and Lewis White, Noel Leighton found the back of the net with a crisp drive that gave Johnny Saltmer no chance.
And it was 2-1 to the hosts less than five minutes later. This time an excellent through ball from Lewis White split the Hull defence, Leighton collected the ball, advanced forward and steered his effort into the back of the net for his - and Millwall’s - second goal of the game.
The home side were denied a third goal when last ditch defending from the Tigers saw the ball cleared off the line, before Saltmer was called upon to ensure the Lions didn’t increase their advantage.
At the other end of the pitch, Bill Chadwick came close to an equaliser when his attempt on goal was well saved by Ryan Sanford.
However the Tigers did manage to get themselves back on equal terms moments before the break when a defensive mix-up left Chadwick with all the time in the world on the edge of the box, and the young midfielder kept his composure to slot the ball past Sandford from the edge of the Millwall box.
In an even second-half, both teams tightened up defensively and scoring chances were at a premium. Although both sides had opportunities to claim all three points, the better of which fell to the Tigers, neither side could find an all-important third goal to secure the win.
