Colchester United 3
Gomis (3)
Hull City 1

A Virgil Gomis hat-trick saw the Under-18s suffer a third successive league defeat at start of the Professional Development League season with a 3-1 loss away at Nottingham Forest.

The Tigers had suffered defeats to Cardiff City and Coventry City in thier opening two games of the season, whilst Forest were also looking to bounce back successive losses at the hands of Colchester United and Ipswich Town, and it was the home side that ended their run courtesy of Gomis’ treble.

The Frenchman opened the scoring in the first half as he latched on to a hrough-ball from Kyle McClean, raced past the Tigers’ defence and fired low into the bottom corner of the net.

Forest doubled their advantage three minutes into the second half as Gomis was on hand from six yards out to stab the ball home from a left-wing cross.

Richard O’Donnell and Richard Naylor’s side halved the deficit with ten minutes remaining through Tyler Hamilton’s close-range finish to give the Tigers hope a late comeback, but Forest were not to denied the win as Gomis sealed his hat-trick in the final minute.
